In the first of our + 1 concerts, the Gildas will perform a Summer, Winter and Autumn programme – Haydn at the height of his powers, defining the string quartet, Britten’s haunting last major work, written as he faced the imminent end of his life, and Brahms’ sumptuous late, autumnal clarinet quintet, one of the greatest chamber works.

The Gildas Quartet have performed to critical acclaim at major venues and on BBC Radio 3. Praised for their ‘energy, verve and refreshing approach’, their bold and explorative attitude to performance has been recognised by the International Franz Schubert and Modern Music Competition, Graz, where they won first prize. In the past few years they have given recitals at international festivals including Oxford Lieder, Kings Lynn, Two Moors and Cheltenham.
Jack is a clarinettist and composer who performs regularly with the Gildas Quartet, members of Le Page Ensemble and CHROMA. A Britten-Pears Young Artist, he completed the flagship AdvPgDip course at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire, gaining a Distinction and was awarded the Conservatoire Principal’s prize. Jack is a passionate educator and teaches at Birmingham and Nottingham University. He is currently director of the chamber music strand of Aldeburgh Young Musicians.
