The world-renowned ‘cellist performs the first and third of JS Bach’s six suites for solo ‘cello, high points of the instrument’s repertoire, separated by the sonata for solo ‘cello by Mieczysław Weinberg, contemporary and great friend of Shostakovich, which is by turns haunting, witty and thrilling.

Raphael Wallfisch is one of the most celebrated cellists performing on the international stage.  He won the Gaspar Casado International Cello Competition in Florence at the age of 24 and has since then enjoyed a worldwide career playing with the London Symphony, London Philharmonic, Philharmonia, BBC Symphony, English Chamber Orchestra, Halle, Berlin Symphony, Westdeutscher Rundfunk, Los Angeles Philharmonic and many others.
